October

Been recording in the studio with the incredible drummer/percussionist, Michael D'Aagastino, who has worked with cats like Stanley Jordan, Herbie Hancock, Trey Gunn of King Crimson and many others. Mark Egan has layed down bass on some of these tracks. Mark is a heavy: according to his bio, he's got three platinum and three gold albums to his credit, and has performed and recorded with Pat Metheny Group, Sting, Roger Daltrey, Joan Osborne, David Sanborn, Gil Evans, Marianne Faithful and John McLaughlin.

Getting a chance to be involved with guys like this is why I practice so much.

Speaking of practicing, my students have been putting their time in too! It's really exciting to witness the progress these guys and gals are making. In Rockland County, besides my individual lessons, I've started giving group lessons, coaching a group with drums, bass, and guitar. These fellas are already gigging around town, even though their oldest member is twelve and the other two are eight years old!!!

August

Tabla Maestro Samir Chaterjee and I will be working together to create his curriculum for Manhattan School of Music, where he will be teaching a four year course on Tabla and Indian music. I am honored that he has also joined my new educational organization World Music Education

Terraplane ripped it up at The Satelite Bar and we were given an open invitation to play.. In order to avoid over exposure we just took a Thursday in August and two weekends in September. (See schedule)

July

Charlie Blass and I had an amazing month, Hosting Garam Masala WKCR 89.9 FM New York and wkcr.org. featuring some of the greatest Indian classical musicians for performances and interviews live in the studio.

We were proud to have mandolin maestro Snehashish Mozumder, Jerome Harris, who not only plays with these Indian guys, but jazzers like Sonny Rollins and Jack DeJohnette! Hidayat Khan (who had just been recording with Jay-Z the night before), vocalist Mitali Banerjee Bhawmik, master of the Sarangi Pandit Ramesh Misra and Dan Weiss. Samir Chaterjee made it all happen.
