I've been hosting shows on the radio for over 10 years with history at two stations in New York and one in West Africa. Lately we've been recieving a lot of positve e-mails and phone calls at the station so I guess we're doing something right. Sometimes I just spin music and have produced shows of Latin, African, Indian, gospel, funk, jazz, blues and experimental music. My favorite format, though, is to have great musicians come and perform live, then we have an interview, and then they play some more. Below are some archives and excerpts from past shows and a look at what's ahead. Feel free to contact me with any feedback. Thanks!
Wasfuddin is the 20th generation in an unbroken chain of India's greatest dhrupad singers, which is the most traditional style of Raga. He is also a fascinating guy, listen to 10 seconds and you'll be hooked.
Joshua Geisler is an incredible musician on both guitar and Bansuri (indian bamboo flute). He's performed with the likes of Paul Simon, and actually has designed and created his own flutes as well as written a book called The Chromatic Bansuri. In this excerpt he performs live with Ehren Hansen on tabla and Matias Kunzli on percussion.
The station I DJ at has it's devotees, who consider it the greatest station in the world. Maybe they're right, check it out any time streaming on the web at www.wkcr.org or if you are in New York City at 89.9 FM NY. Also I should mention I spend a lot of my time DJing at private events. For DJ events you can contact my agent Brendan O'Keefe at BOK-Music.com, or contact me directly.
